Help OAM Support "Hope In Sight"

The Opticians Association of Massachusetts supports the “Hope in Sight” campaign to secure donations of optical equipment on the “Wish List” and additional funding because it believes so deeply in the mission of Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology’s (BFIT) Opticianry A.S. Degree Program.

Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology (BFIT) in Boston has the only Associate’s Degree Program in Opticianry in Massachusetts.  The College also offers an Ophthalmic Assisting Certificate of Proficiency Program in partnership with area medical centers, including Tufts Medical Center and Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston.

In addition to classroom training, the staff and students are involved in two, major charitable efforts that offer them the real-world training necessary to provide quality opticianry services in the future. Locally, students are working with the New England College of Optometry to supply Boston Public School children (K-12) with eyewear.  Internationally, BFIT students are working with the Lion’s Club to collect, identify prescriptions, refurbish, and send the eyewear to “One Sight” whose missions distribute the glasses to vision-needy people in developing nations.

The Reality BFIT is a small college with a big vision.  As such, the Department of Opticianry strives to have the most modern and professional equipment in order to assure that its students graduate with expert training to become optical professionals.   But, they cannot do this alone. They need your help.

The Goal: State-of-the-Art Equipment Opticians, optical companies, and consumers can provide BFIT with the necessary equipment and funding that will allow students to have state-of-the-art training and to make a greater impact with their involvement in worthy charitable causes.

The Wish List Equipment needed by the College is listed on the “Hope in Sight Wish List.”  We welcome gifts of gently-used or new “Wish List” items! Partner with us to provide BFIT students with the equipment that will further their education.  Together, we can make a difference. Please click here to view the complete Wish List.

The Gift Gifts of equipment listed on the “Wish List” may be made by contacting OAM’s Executive Director and Chair of the Department of Opticianry at BFIT, Blair Wong. He can be contacted at opticianma@aol.com or at 617-588-1294. Financial gifts may be made by mail or securely online by clicking here.   All gifts are fully tax-deductable, and 100% of your donation will be used for the acquisition of “Hope in Sight” Wish List items.  An acknowledgment letter for monetary gifts or item(s) donated*will be sent to every donor.  Thank you for your generosity.
