Massachusetts Apprentice Program

Apprentice Programs The Commonwealth of Massachusetts, through the Department of Labor – Division of Apprentice Training, offers an Apprentice Optician program to Licensed Opticians wishing to train their employees for a career as an Optician. The apprentice program is a minimum of 6,000 hours to be accomplished over a period of no more than 5 years and no less than three. The program is overseen by both the Division of Apprentice Training and the Massachusetts Board of Registration for Licensed Opticians.   Click here for details on being an Apprentice Optician.

National Guidelines For Apprenticeship Standards In 2007, the US Department of Labor approved the National Guidelines For Apprenticeship Standards for the occupation of Ophthalmic Dispensers and Contact Lens Fitters. This important national document was developed by the National Academy of Opticianry and the Contact Lens Society of America and now serves as a primary resource for the professional development of opticians in Massachusetts and across the US.   Click Here to view this document.
