Membership Benefits

There are many benefits of membership in the Opticians Association of Massachusetts. Here are just a few of the things that OAM does for you:

Opticians Association of America (OAA) Membership:

We are pleased to announce that effective January 1, 2004, all full members of the OAM now hold an Individual Membership with OAA (Opticians Association of America). The Executive Committee approved the new dual member plan as an expression of our support towards the OAA, as well as enhancing our OAM benefits to our own membership.

Education:

Members are entitled to discounted rates for educational events such as our Spring Expo. Members will receive registration materials for all events approximately four weeks prior to the scheduled event.

Communication:

OAM maintains an association headquarters for all incoming requests through our phone line, answering service, fax line and e-mail. Members are kept in touch by outgoing correspondence in the form of two newsletters, periodic President's letters and event registration flyers. We may also be reached here at our website.

The OAM Board of Directors meet periodically throughout the year to discuss and plan the affairs of the association. Members are invited to attend any of these meetings by simply notifying the executive director in advance of the meeting. Minutes of each of the meetings to members are available upon request.

Local Legislation:

The OAM serves as the legislative "watchdog" for any proposed bills which may threaten our scope of practice. The OAM continues, as had been established by MARDO (the association's name prior to 2000 for 60 years) to retain the services of a political advisor and lobbyist to assist and represent opticians in the political arena.

National Presence:

The OAM, along with 30 other States, is affiliated with the Opticians Association of America which defends opticianry on a national level. As an affiliated State, the OAM receives great support, insight and direction.

Corporate Sponsor Support:

The OAM participates in a corporate sponsor program in which members may seek the advice and assistance of our sponsoring companies for their particular area of expertise. Our sponsors areas of specialization range from opthalmic products and services, to inventory and business management strategy to personal and business financial planning.
